Keeping Company
Back in the day (which means a long time ago) people used to use all sorts of phrases. These little phrases have important messages just like a proverb. According to the Academy of American Poets, a proverb is a short statement or saying that expresses a basic truth. The Bible has a book written by King Solomon, and he spoke many proverbs. The other day I was speaking with my daughter and we were talking about friends and knowing a lot of people. I replied to her that knowing a lot of people will get you invited to many functions, but my daughter made an astounding statement which registered to me. She stated, “When too many people know your name, that's not good.” Just like eating too much sugar can ruin your teeth. Don’t be misunderstood. It is good to know some people, but be mindful of the number of people that you line yourself with. Make sure the friends or companies are people with good morals and positivity. Proverbs 18:24 states, “A man of too many friends comes to a ruin.” (NASB)
